Solitaire Clash Review [2024]: Is It the Easiest Solitaire Money Game to Play? (2024)

Key takeaways

  • Solitaire Clash is available on iOS and Samsung devices (not on Google Play). The game setup is a typical solitaire game.
  • During my time playing Solitaire Clash, I made $9.54 total (including bonus cash). I was successfully able to cash out part of that amount, but bonus cash can’t be withdrawn.
  • I maintained a better winning streak in Solitaire Clash than I’ve managed in other cash game apps. Possibly because of a game feature that makes it easier to move cards.
  • The main drawback I encountered was occasional game lag.

Is Solitaire Clash legit?

Yes, Solitaire Clash is a legit game that allows you to win real money in cash tournaments (in most states). It has a 4.8 rating and over 180,000 reviews in the Apple App Store and 5 out of 5 stars with almost 20,000 reviews in the Samsung Galaxy Store. It's published by Aviagames, Inc., a mobile gaming company founded in 2017.

Solitaire Clash is an online solitaire game that works with iOS and Samsung devices. The app lets you compete against other players to try and win either actual money or free in-game currency.

The game itself looks like just about any other digital solitaire game. You have a board with seven stacks of cards and the goal is to uncover all of the hidden cards and stack them in four piles at the top, organized by color and suit.

Solitaire Clash Review [2024]: Is It the Easiest Solitaire Money Game to Play? (2)

Unlike an analog solitaire game, Solitaire Clash is timed. You have five minutes to finish the game, and not every deck is winnable, which I find nerve-wracking sometimes when the clock is counting down and I’m anxiously searching for possible plays.

As you play the game and stack cards, you earn points. The player at the end with the most points wins first place (and possibly some real money, depending on the tournament).

Tip

You get a time bonus (extra points) for finishing or forfeiting before the timer runs out. So play quickly and end the game early if you get an unwinnable deck.

Solitaire Clash is a “skills-based” competition, meaning you’re competing against real people (playing with an identical deck) and the best players win. But don’t think that means it’s easy to win and make money. You have to be better at this game than whoever else is in the player pool, and that’s a challenge when there are some real solitaire masters out there.

My gameplay experience with Solitaire Clash

I played Solitaire Clash for about two hours, and I spent the first 30 minutes playing free gem tournaments to get used to the game and improve my skills. The game was just as fun to play as other digital solitaire games I’ve tried, such as Solitaire Cash.

The game graphics look outdated and a little cheesy, especially for some of the mini games or challenges, which are various promotions the app offers to try and get you to play tournaments and deposit money.

Solitaire Clash Review [2024]: Is It the Easiest Solitaire Money Game to Play? (5)

Solitaire Clash does one cool thing that some other solitaire gaming apps don’t: When you tap the cards on the board, if there’s a place the card can move, the game will move it there automatically. That means you don’t have to scour the board trying to find a place a card could possibly go, you can just tap all of the cards and see if they move on their own.

This was a great option for me when I was fighting the clock and couldn’t see anywhere a card could possibly move. The game routinely found open spots I hadn’t noticed on my own. A lot of other solitaire game apps don’t have this feature, and that makes gameplay move slower. Plus, it feels more frustrating as a player.

That said, don’t rely on the auto-move feature too much. I found that I got lazy if I started using it for every move. It made me stop strategizing more complicated moves that would have let me score more points and possibly complete decks that seemed unwinnable. The number of games I had to forfeit went up when I used the auto-move feature as a crutch.

Cash tournament experience

I mainly played Rookie tournaments in Solitaire Clash, which have a $1 entry fee and a $5 cash prize pool. The first-place winner of a Rookie tournament gets $3 as a cash prize.

When I dug into my account details, I noticed that I actually got only $2.90 as a real-money prize for winning first place. The remaining $0.10 was awarded as bonus cash, which I can’t withdraw from the game.

What is bonus cash?

Bonus cash an in-game currency in Solitaire Clash. You get varying amounts of it when you deposit real money, or through free rewards. You can use bonus cash to play real-money tournaments, but you can’t withdraw it.

The prize pool and awards for Rookie tournaments are on par with other solitaire money games. But for whatever reason, I found tournaments in Solitaire Clash easier to win than in other apps. Possibly because of the auto-move feature for cards that makes gameplay faster and helped me play cards I wouldn’t have moved on my own.

Even though I played competitor game Solitaire Cash for roughly the same amount of time as Solitaire Clash, I ended up with less money. My winning streaks in this game were more frequent.

Solitaire Clash Review [2024]: Is It the Easiest Solitaire Money Game to Play? (8)

Another perk of Solitaire Clash is the size of the prize pools compared to the maximum number of players. On some game apps, the tournaments with the biggest possible prize pools allow an unlimited number of players. That makes it pretty much impossible for most people to win — there’s probably going to be a better player than you in that pool.

But Solitaire Clash offers high-prize tournaments with a small number of players. For example, I saw a tournament with a $195 prize pool and only five players allowed.

The entry fees for these tournaments are really high ($55 for the one I mentioned), so they’re still not the best use of your time. But if you love the thrill of trying for the top prize, then Solitaire Clash is a great game for you.

Tips for scoring points

If you want to get more points on Solitaire Clash, then there are some things you should know.

First of all, the moves that score the most points are stacking cards in the four piles at the top of the deck, with Ace cards on the bottom. (Technically, these piles are called the “foundations.”) You get 100 points for adding a card to one of those stacks.

Lesser moves, such as moving cards sideways on the board, or down from the draw pile, score only 20 points. And if you move a card sideways but the move doesn’t reveal a card underneath, then you score zero points.

Tip

If you move a card to one of the four top piles and it comes from the draw pile, or reveals a new card on the main board, then you score an extra 20 points for a total of 120.

Here are my tips for maximizing your points on Solitaire Clash:

  • Focus on uncovering cards. The most important thing is to reveal all of the cards on the board as quickly as possible, so prioritize moves that let you reveal the most cards. Working the board from right to left is generally a good way to do this.
  • Use the undo button. The undo button only costs the number of points you earned on the initial move, so you can use it anytime without penalty. It only undoes one move though, so try to catch your mistakes quickly.
  • Forfeit unwinnable games early. If you realize you can’t finish a deck, then forfeit the game immediately. You still get a time bonus on unwinnable decks, so it’s best to preserve the points you have.
  • Stick to small player pools. Solitaire Clash offers tournaments with different numbers of players. The fewer players in the pool, the fewer people you have to beat to win the top prize.

How much money can you make?

At the end of my time playing Solitaire Clash, I had earned a total of $9.54, which breaks down to about $6.36 per hour (not counting the 30 minutes I spent on free gem games).

However, that number is a bit misleading because it doesn’t account for three things:

  1. The $5 I deposited into the game
  2. How much I spent on entry fees (typically $1 per tournament)
  3. How much of my total amount was bonus cash (an in-game currency that can’t be withdrawn)

Despite earning almost $10, I could only keep $4. That’s because I had $4.44 in bonus cash, which can’t be withdrawn from the game. Of the remaining $5.10, $1 went to the game as a processing fee (charged on every withdrawal). And I couldn’t take out the remaining $0.10 because the game only lets you cash out whole numbers.

Solitaire Clash Review [2024]: Is It the Easiest Solitaire Money Game to Play? (10)

I don’t love that Solitaire Clash has such finicky rules around withdrawals and bonus cash, but this type of setup is typical for gaming apps. It’s not a great user experience, but I can’t ding Solitaire Clash for it too much when every other solitaire money game has similar restrictions.

Warning

When you withdraw any amount of money, you have to forfeit all of the bonus cash in your account. I lost $4.44 in bonus cash when I withdrew $4.

Cash withdrawal methods

The standard withdrawal methods Solitaire Clash offers are PayPal or Venmo. But if you withdraw less than the amount of cash you deposited in the first place (like I did), then it will actually go out as a refund to your original payment method.

I paid my $5 deposit with a credit card, so my $4 withdrawal was issued as a refund to my card. The refund showed up in my account in about 24 hours, so withdrawals don’t seem to take very long to arrive.

What other users have to say

I had an overall good experience with Solitaire Clash. From an app quality perspective, the only real issue I noticed was occasional lag. Since app store reviews for Solitaire Clash are overwhelmingly positive, it seems other users have had generally good experiences as well.

Reviews for Solitaire Clash are overwhelmingly positive. For example, user Will posted in the Galaxy Store that, “This game is really addictive! You can win money without depositing any money (but it's pretty hard). I've been playing and playing so that I can see the money in my account start to go up and up. Love it.”

Another user, Belv, wrote, “I've played this game for a while now and I REALLY like it. I almost never spend money on other games but I've made a few deposits on this one. It's worked out for me because I enjoy the game a lot and also have been able to win my money back.”
