LINCOLN - In recognition of her upcoming retirement, the Board Members of the Logan County Park and Trails Foundation would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to Pat Bree for her 25 years of devoted service to the Foundation and to Kickapoo Creek Park. The Logan County Park and Trails (LCP&T) Foundation was established by Violet Scully in 1969. Violet set aside 1300 acres of Scully Family land to form a "green belt” around Lincoln for nature and wildlife preservation and for public education. Kickapoo Creek Park is the gem of her inspiration. The park allows public access to private land without tax payer support. In other words, Kickapoo Creek Park is funded entirely by production on farmland in the Foundation, making it self-sustaining.Pat’s previous experience as a local math teacher helped prepare her for work with the Scully family. She was hired by Jim Walden in 1993 as an accountant for the Scully Trust and became the Secretary/Treasurer of the Kickapoo Creek Park in 1995. Her duties included maintaining payroll, paying park bills, producing budgets and profit and loss statements, working with farm managers, farmers and park rangers, maintaining records and minutes during Board meetings and other duties too numerous to mention! Pat has enjoyed seeing the park evolve into a place that visitors truly enjoy and is grateful for her experiences with the Foundation. In her retirement, Pat plans to continue her volunteer service at the Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital. Her retirement will also allow her to spend more time with her children, grandchildren and her husband, Bill.
